Every green dot on the map is a location within the UK, that's why
there are some white spaces, they are areas where there are no towns,
villages or hamlets.
The white areas on the map broadly have low populations because
there are no towns and villages, if you look carefully you will notice
that many of the uk national parks, fens and moorlands stand
out.
The reason we mostly use historic counties is that they are
still frequently used and familiar to most people, despite the fact
that they are years out of date and have been replaced by
Administrative areas and Unitary authorities in recent years, we do
support the new designations but frankly most people find them
confusing.
