| Archaeological Adventure Have you ever wanted to take part in an excavation? Discover real objects from ancient civilisations? Understand how archaeologists recreate the past? Then visit Dig in York, an archaeological adventure. The experience is all about having a go; visitors are invited to grab their trowels and get their hands dirty while exploring 2000 years of York’s unique history. At DIG you will uncover artefacts from Roman times through the Viking and Medieval ages to the Victorian period, that will help you learn what life was really like. Analyse human remains, reveal the bugs and beetles found in a typical Victorian house, reconstruct a Roman wall decoration. Meet a real life archaeologist and be the first to witness cutting edge evidence from the latest archaeological digs. Come armed with questions to find out more. |
Hansel and Gretel's breadcrumbs Let your children become real-life Hansels and Gretels with the York Breadcrumbs Trail. First, buy the story sack containing the book York Breadcrumbs, a map, a torch and batteries from either the TIC or at one of the local bookstores in the city. Then wait until it is dark, get out your torch and map and set off around the city centre. You will be guided on your walk by reflectors that have been sunk into the pavements to create a series of trails. The book comes complete with a pull out map to make it easier to follow the trail and it highlights points of interest to look out for along the way. |
