Within Sherwood Forest is a tree known as 'Major Oak'; So called because Major Hayman Rooke described it in 1790; It has also been called the Queen's Oak or simply the Queen; It is hollow in the middle, has a girth of 10.6m, and its branches spread 28metres. Visit Wollaton Hall, a spectacular Tudor building, designed by Robert Smythson and completed in 1588; The House inside matches the splendour of the outside; Today the hall is a Natural History and Industrial Museum, open to the public throughout the year.
