Domes and Gargoyles
The romantic exterior of Knebworth House and Gardens in Hertfordshire, with its turrets, domes and gargoyles silhouetted against the sky does little to prepare the visitor for what to expect inside. The house has stood for many years, longer than the nineteenth-century decoration would suggest. Once home to Constance Lytton, the Suffragette, and Robert Lytton, the Viceroy of India who proclaimed Queen Victoria Empress of India at the Great Delhi Durbar of 1877. Knebworth Park has 250 acres of grassland for you to explore. There are avenues of magnificent trees and over 100 red and sika deer. There is also a bouncy castle, monorail suspension slide, Tarzan Trail and Miniature Railway. Children can run loose on the grass, climb on the swings and walkways, bounce down the four lane astroglide or try their courage on the freefall slide. Knebworth is also world famous for its huge open-air rock concerts, and was used as a film location for Batman, The Shooting Party, Wilde, Jane Eyre and The Canterville Ghost.
