Similar images have been found depicted on coins from that period, and it is thought that the figure represents a horse goddess connected with the local Belgae tribe. Crowning White Horse Hill is the Iron Age hillfort known as Uffington Castle, at 857ft (262m), it forms one of the highest points in this part of the country.
